“Kami is a very impressive application! What I find most attractive about it is that it also makes collaboration possible aside from cloud annotations. It is extremely useful in situations where collaboration is needed. Thank you, Kami!”
– Fei Chen Wen, Post-Graduate Student, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Challenge: Finding a program that has functionalities that are needed in class, such as taking notes at any point on a PDF slide, highlighting, and adding comments directly on top of the file. The program should also enable users to collaborate.
Solution: Kami is a PDF editor where text and graphic annotations can be done. It can also be connected to Google Drive.
Benefits: Kami is a software that makes PDF editing tasks such as highlighting, commenting, and inserting text much easier because of its simple interface. The user can click anywhere and make a comment on an exact point in the file.
About the University
Since its founding in 1867, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has been building its reputation as an academic institution that excels in public relations, research, and education. It carries on its shoulders the important mission of improving the lives of the citizens of Illinois, eventually extending this mission towards the whole nation and the whole world. The university invests greatly in its highly talented faculty members, many of whom have earned prestigious awards such as the Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize. The University aims to provide its students with a type of education that is transformative in nature. It is their hope that when the students step out from the halls of the university, they will be catalysts for positive change in the world.
Academic and Technical Challenge
The university ensures that the academic resources available to its students are world-class. A lot of the references used in the classrooms today are found in digital format such as the PDF file. Fifty-three million people use the online catalog of the university every year. Students utilize computers to access these references in their classrooms, residence halls and libraries for their academic requirements. Applications that enable the use of electronic references to become simpler and more efficient must also be available, to enhance the students’ learning experience.
Kami Provides a Solution
Fei Chen Wen is a post-graduate student at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She needed a cloud-based application that could make annotations in PDF files. This led her to make an intensive search in the Chrome Application store, which finally led her to Kami. She finds the application to be efficient, user-friendly, and easy to use. What she likes most about Kami is that it also makes collaboration possible aside from cloud annotations. It is extremely useful in situations where collaboration is needed.
Ever since she started using Kami, she has been using the application every day for accomplishing the requirements of her classes. The features that she commonly uses are viewing scanned files using OCR, adding text, and saving the files on her hard drive. Post graduate studies involve reading a lot of references and the submission of papers. With Kami, tedious tasks like these have become much more bearable. Schoolwork has never been so enjoyable and convenient that she is willing to recommend it to her colleagues.
Why Kami Is a Very Useful Tool for Post-Graduate Students
Post-graduate studies induce a lot of stress to many students because the academic standards are set at a much higher level. Students are being trained to think critically, which is why there are a lot of readings assigned to them. In 2015, institutions are more conscious of the environment than ever; thus, a lot of references available today are published in electronic format.
The Kami interface was designed to be clean and intuitive so that it will be readily accessible. High technical skills are not required to learn to use it. Making annotations can be done efficiently. Since it is a cloud-based application, it can be connected to Google Drive. Collaboration is now easier than ever. It is a very useful feature for post-graduate students since classes involve coming up with ideas, sharing them with colleagues, and learning from each other in the process. Indeed, Kami has been a reliable partner in every stage of the student’s learning process.
