In a Nutshell:
“Starting this year, Gen Ed teachers are encouraging students to work primarily online through sources such as Google Docs, and students need to be able to interact with their PDF’s and other documents in class.”
– Nancy Stewart, Dyslexia Specialist, Cedar Park Middle School and Four Points Middle School.
Challenge: Encouraging students to go paperless, Dyslexia Specialist Nancy Stewart needed a tool that allows students to work on documents both online and offline.
Solution: Kami enables annotating and commenting on documents online and offline – all on a student’s web browser.
Benefit: With Kami, students save time and reduces the need for printing documents. Reading and comprehension are improved as students can underline, highlight and annotate documents online. Also, they can collaborate with other students and teachers. On top of this, we have recently launched a Text-to-Speech tool. These tools enhance the learning process as collaboration is now in real-time and easier than before.
About the school
Cedar Park Middle School and Four Points Middle School fall under the Leander Independent School District, one of the fastest growing school districts in the Texas, educating more than 37,000 students at its 39 campuses. The district encompasses nearly 200 square miles.
Starting this year, general education teachers are encouraging students to work primarily online through sources such as Google Docs. Kami is one of the school district’s recommended apps for their students.
Academic and Technical Challenge
Dyslexia is primarily associated with trouble reading – but can also affect writing and spelling. While people with dyslexia can understand complex ideas, sometimes they need more time to work through the information. And this is where Kami is hugely beneficial, the use of the highlight tool, underline tool, text to speech tool, and comment tool is a proven method in aiding students’ reading and comprehension.
Kami Provides a Solution
Leander Independent School District has Kami on their approved list of Chrome apps for their schools. That said, this is not the only reason that teachers and students alike find themselves using Kami. Kami is successful in the classroom because it’s simple and easy to use, and meets the needs of its users at an affordable price. Kami works well with Google Classroom, with automatic sync to Google Drive and is something that the school district is encouraging their students to use on the road to using less paper. The easy to use layout and tools work well for learners of all ages and abilities – which is why students and teachers continually come back to Kami over using other document editing software.
Why Using Kami is Beneficial
As millions of individuals move their work to the cloud, Kami will be the best alternative to the traditional Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Reader applications. Our product is accessible via any browser through our web-based app, web.kamihq.com as well as Google Chrome Extension App and Google Marketplace App. Kami is a beautiful application that makes it easier to use by everyone. From students to professionals, anyone can easily use our app to create, edit, annotate, and share with just a click of a button. Other applications available have designs and features that can be compared to the usual word editing programmes. With Kami, the layout of the application is more intuitive, enabling greater accessibility and allowing annotations to be done in an instant. There are numerous benefits to Kami. This includes providing a venue for collaborative learning in the most efficient way. Since it can be connected to Google Drive, files can be saved and shared 24 hours a day, seven days a week without any hassle. Indeed, it is an application that is highly recommended for instructors to facilitate learning in the classroom.
