How to Publish your own Book

How to Publish your own Book

Years ago, the only way to get your book published was to send out a lot of copies of your manuscript to editors and pray that they didn’t end up in the reject pile. Back then, rejection was almost always a certainty, and the whole publishing process took months, even years, to finish.

Nowadays, an author has plenty of options available to them apart from traditional publishing companies. When it comes to book publishing, authors can now go the quicker, cheaper, easier, and more profitable route: self-publishing. No rejection letters to crush your spirits, no breaking the bank, and no stress dealing with booksellers. It’s quick and easy publishing with just a click of the mouse.

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing

Amazon’s self-publishing tool is one of the easiest and most user-friendly tools available online for authors. You have the option to publish your books as an e-book or as an audiobook, and it only takes minutes. All you need to do is set up an account profile and have your book ready in the supported formats (Word, HTML, MOBI, ePUB, RTF, Plain Text, PDF or KPF). Once you have those set up, you can log in to your account, proceed to your Bookshelf, and then click on Create New Title. Before publishing, the site also tells you important things you need to know about your published book and the site’s policies on rights and pricing. When you click on Save and Publish, your book will be submitted to the Kindle Store and will be available for purchase in approximately 72 hours.

Createspace

Createspace is another Amazon company that helps authors create, publish, and distribute their books in print. Services also cover audio CDs and DVDs. Authors can make use of free tools to help them design and publish their books and have them available on the market in the quickest possible time. Createspace can also distribute the books globally and reach millions of customers through Amazon.

Blurb

Blurb is another publishing platform that can publish books in both digital and print formats. If you have a photo book, a magazine, a portfolio, or an e-book that needs to be published, you can do it on Blurb. It offers competitive price packages and helpful tools and templates that are perfect for authors who want to create the book themselves. What’s more, Blurb can sell and distribute your book in the Blurb bookstore, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, the iBooks store, and 39,000 other book retailers.

Smashwords and Lulu

With Smashwords, you need to sign up for a free account and download the free guide on how to format your manuscript. When you click Publish, all you need to do is upload your book, and your book cover if you have one. Lulu can publish your book in print, and you can customize it just the way you want. You can choose the size of the book, the type of paper and binding, and the book cover design. There’s nothing that can stop you from publishing that book!
