When life gets very busy, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of chaos and clutter. Your life will not get organised with just a snap of the fingers. You need to work on it day after day until you can finally see positive changes and improvements. But there are steps you can take now to get you on your way. Here are five ways how.
It’s a good habit to write down all the things you need to do and then tick them off one by one as you accomplish them. There’s a certain kind of satisfaction that you get when you know that you’re getting things done, no matter how simple or unimportant they may seem. List things to do, stuff to buy, bills to pay, meetings to attend, and so on. Keep a notebook and pen with you at all times so you can easily jot down stuff that you need to remember or accomplish. It’s so easy to forget things, especially when you’ve got your hands full, so write them all down before they completely slip your mind.
Back everything up
Back up all of your important files, like photos, videos, music, movies, and other important documents to cloud storage. Not only can you save storage space, but your files are also protected in case your laptop crashes or your external hard drive gets corrupted. Scan important physical documents like birth certificates, social security, medical records, financial documents, or land titles, and upload to your cloud as well. Photocopy them so that you have an extra set of copies, and then put them away in a safe place inside your home. Duplicate car keys and house keys so that you have a spare set in case of emergencies.
Have a notebook where you can write down all the passwords of your emails and other social media or online accounts. This way, you won’t panic when you suddenly get kicked out of Pinterest and have to key in your login details again.
Give everything their proper place
Your books should have their shelves. Your kids’ toys should have their basket. Your husband should have his display case of Game of Thrones action figures. Everything must have a rightful place to avoid clutter and keep everything looking clean and organised.
Do it once a month or as often as necessary, depending on the size of your home and how many people you live with. If you haven’t used something for more than six months, it’s time to throw it away or donate it to charity.
Have a bulletin board at home
Any important updates, events, occasions, or announcements, put it up on a bulletin board where everyone at home can see. Maybe the kitchen or the living room?
It’s a great idea if you live with friends, and you don’t always see each other because of your busy schedules. Yes, you can always message each other on your smartphones, but a bulletin board is still old school cool.
